My cousin passed away Thursday night/Friday morning. It was one of those bizarre moments when you've been kind of expecting it at any time but it's still a shock when it happens. Without going into too much detail she'd been claiming to kill herself for the last 20 years and now she's finally gone and done it. I wasn't close to my cousin but I used to babysit her and her brother when I was a teenager.
To make things worse I went out Friday morning to get some milk - I'd phoned in an emergency day because my wife and sister were devastated and needed someone strong around - and when I got back home there was an ambulance directly across the road from us. Not knowing the exact circumstances of my cousins death at that time (she'd been taken to hospital and declared dead there) I first thought it was just there because it was the nearest place it could park to my aunt's house (round the corner).
Found out it was there for the lady across the road who had also died in the night and they'd just discovered her. I knew her to nod to but my sister knew her a lot better - so my sister was in even more of a state.
I have a macabre sense of humour so when my wife suggested these things come in threes I promptly offered to wrap a baseball bat around her head; just to be on the safe side...
