So I'm currently still playing Skyrim. I now have the Hearthfire expansion and because of getting this I decided to start again with a new character. Which means I'm quite low-level again (around 20-ish).
Well me and my trusty sidekick, Lydia (I call her Lydia Chlamydia because she can be really irritating at times!), we were in our way to a mission when we stopped off at a giant camp for a little giant and mammoth hunting. It was the middle of the night so it was really dark with only the light of the giants' campfire providing anything to really see by.
Lydia was doing all the tank work whilst I stayed at distance on high ground raining arrows and the occasional familiar/atronauch at our foes. We'd managed to take down both the mammoths and one of the giants so only one of them was left. He was feeling a little shy and had buggered off somewhere. I knew he was nearby because the tell-tale red dot was showing he was. I was on the verge of nipping into harms way to find out exactly where he was when I suddenly caught a glimpse of him nearby. I was not in the best position to start shooting him full of arrows so I turned around to jump up onto a higher ledge.
And that's when it happened.
It was a cracking shot. "One-in-a-million". So to speak.
I'd just jumped onto the ledge and as I was turning around to face the giant I nocked an arrow in readiness. As I swung around I just caught a glimpse of movement going towards the campfire. I let loose the arrow blindly, aiming only in a general direction that was in front of where the figure was heading. I knew it was going to hit as soon as I'd loosed it though because the camera went into "follow-the-arrow" mode which almost always indicates a hit.
And true to form it did.
Bullseye! Right in her head!!!!
I say "her" because it wasn't the giant but my poor bloody sidekick, Lydia.
Dead. As. A. Doornail.
I just couldn't believe it. Such a perfect shot and it landed in the wrong character!
Worse, I hadn't saved during the fight so it meant having to do it all over again. Several times before we cleared the camp properly.
So that was it. My wonderful "one-in-a-million" gaming moment, where my skill and luck combined to (almost) provide that perfect gaming moment.
But what about you? Have you any tales like this (either where you got it right or, like me, didn't quite get it so right)?
