Sounds like getting a lawn mower from Sears over here! Not that I've been that unfortunate, since my father-in-law knows a lot about small engines and what brands NOT to buy, but I've heard some terrible stories.
I am beginning to be able to ignore the fact that this silly Agile process at work means I end up getting paid programming dollars for clerical work. (That's really frustrating to me because I'm getting less done overall.) I had a bit of a run-in with a coworker over my stress levels (caused by Agile) just over a month ago and so have been doing all I can not to say anything too negative. I bite my tongue a lot and she thinks I'm less stressed now. It's actually just as stressful to me to be uncertain what I can say around her.
She's been like this before, but she'd been really relaxed and much less likely to have these little snit fits lately. While she was pregnant, that is. I wonder now how often various birth control substances can have an effect of causing irritability.
Sorry, I'm rambling.
On the positive side, I haven't had too much in the way of late nights or early mornings, even though I was oncall for April. Sorry to hear how busy you guys have been! And Pex, I know how quickly the little ones grow up, so I hope Ollie is awake a litte more so you can spend time with him!

Been such a hectic month. I'm not sure when my last post was made. I was staying back at work, working from home on weekends, Ollie was sick... Fortunately, it's over now. And my efforts at work didn't go without notice - I got a raise, though not as much as I hoped.

I'd love a raise. For the amount of work I do I am seriously underpaid. In fact, for the last two months I *have* been underpaid. Finally got round to sorting out the info for the boss to sort today so I should get a cheque for the difference tomorrow.
Curry's finally sent out another engineer from (actually the same muppet as last time - from Indesit, the manufacturers). Apparently now it's been used with the safety bolts on. Fine, I can understand that - it would explain the damage - but it sure-to-hell wasn't US as they are claiming. It must have been done when they tested it. I followed the instructions to the letter and removing those bolts was the FIRST thing on the list. I used to be a mechanic in a cotton mill so I'm not stupid on these things.
The upshot is they won't fix/replace and want to charge us almost as much as the machine cost just to replace the broken part. Well they can sod that for a game of soldiers. My sister is writing to them one more time demanding they honour the purchase agreement (as in the one that says we agree to buy a WORKING machine and they agree to PROVIDE a working machine!) or she will be reporting them to the relevant authorities - Trading Standards, etc.
Personally I'm tempted to throw in the word slander - as in the slanderous accusation that it was US that broke it.
The biggest problem is proof. WE know we didn't do it. THEY say we did it. But how can we actually PROVE we didn't? Well if they think we're letting them bully us into submission they've got another thing coming.

Pex - woot! Great news! Congratulations. Sorry to hear Ollie was sick but also happy he's over it. Marty - I say report them. It's to your benefit to explain in the report that you're a mechanic and knew how important it was to follow the installation instructions and therefore did exactly what the instructions said. I'm sure it's a common situation that people who don't know what they're doing feel instructions are not necessary and mess up the washer in exactly this way, at no fault to the store or the manufacturer. But that's no reason to assume it's the same problem in every case. If they won't make it right they should be reported. You know, you may get satisfactory resolution after you report them. I've heard of that happening after a complaint is registered with the Better Business Bureau. I personally have no particular reason to rant right now. I had yesterday off and went garage sale'ing all morning, then played with Legos the rest of the day. It was a break I really needed. I didn't even get on the computer, partly because I can waste hours playing around and partly because I stare at a screen all day for work. Of course the Agile thing is still a pain, but I'm not going to think about that right now.

Okay! Anybody know who stole all my free time? I'm pretty sure slaves get more free time than me these days...

Uh, well, um ... *kicks suspicious duffel bag further under the table* Are you SURE someone stole it? You didn't misplace it or anything?

I know how you feel, Marty. Another weekend is over and I feel I didn't have any time at all. Saturday was actually ok, but today I had to do some work that I brought home, and although I wasn't doing it the whole day, somehow it managed to make me feel I was doing it the whole day.

I hate being oncall. Right now I am waiting for a rerun to finish so I can check it all went well. Yesterday the system blew up at 4-something am. Thursday it did the 4am thing too, and Wednesday evening it required babysitting. UGH!

I get really pissed off with games manufacturers bring out products that are bugged but then DO NOTHING to sort them out. EA are one of the worst culprits for this, with some bugs running through more than one version of a franchise without being sorted.
And they KNOW about these bugs because their forums are full of reports of them. And what do you get - some snotty-nosed little ass-kissing mod telling you "oh, I'm sure they'll fix it in 14" (Fifa 13 is my bugbear at the minute). Well I'm not bothered about Fifa 14. I'm not BUYING Fifa Sodding 14. Because I know damn-well it'll be just as buggy as bloody 13 and I'm sick of being ripped off by the weasally bunch of tossers.
Surely they have beta testers so either they've got the most useless testers imaginable or they don't LISTEN to those testers. That they can't even be bothered to patch up at least SOME of these bugs is a kick in the teeth.
Just off the top of my head... substitutions: if you get three players being subbed at the same time (one for one team, two for the other) they are shown wearing the wrong team's shirt. Only a minor irritation, granted, but annoying as hell when you're already pissed off at other crap.
Career Pro has several bugs - including the fact that you can't develop your player fully because although you hit certain targets the game ignores them. Also, every time my pro plays for the international squad it's apparently his debut according to the news (apparently I've debuted now around 40 times).
The worst one though - and this REALLY got my angry this weekend - was the AI of the career pro manager. The one that put pretty much ALL the team's best players on the transfer market but couldn't get any one in to replace them. So in my current season we had a few injuries and suddenly had to forfeit several games because we didn't have enough match-fit players (which was actually bullshit because we had enough players to field a team and a few over for subs). But the programmers had screwed up and that cost us several games. Oh, and to top it all off, I kept getting in-game e-mails from the director blaming ME for not having a big enough squad when I'm only a player and not the manager.
But apparently most (if not all) of these bugs have been known to EA for ages (some before the game was actually released). Not fixing them is wrong. Not when people have spent £60 (around $100 or more) for the game.

Assassin Creed III doesn't work on Windows XP What kind of bullsh!t is that? I don't want to have Windows 7 or 8. Or if I do, I would probably have to spend money to upgrade my computer first. No one sane would use Windows Vista. I'm so annoyed with this, I can't explain. And I hear you, Marty. I hate when I buy a game, spend 15min installing it and then have to spend half an hour downloading all the latest patches (at least they make patches). And after that I still find some bugs!

Why is it that I get a week off from work and still don't seem to have any time to myself? Shopping... DIY... spring cleaning... meh!

I think we should only have to work 4-day weeks. Then we'd get all the errands around the house done BEFORE vacation and we'd be less stressed so we'd be sick less often!
I have a day off in a couple of weeks. There's no hope on keeping it un-busy because I'm working on Rachel's Halloween costume this month. But maybe I can take zinc and vitamin c and keep from being sick!

I had a week off work too and I got sick. It really sucked. I got sick on the first day back to work. Woke up to a sore throat and now the higher end of my voice is gone - get the feeling the rest of it will follow suit by tomorrow. No sympathy from anyone - everyone is taking the p**s!

Ugh - that's no fun, either. Because you know no-one will understand if you take a sick day, so you go to work anyway and suffer. And then they can't even sympathize a little!! I guess you'll just have to make sure to leave your germs around where they can catch 'em!
