Anyone read these books? They are great - even tested my belief of ASoIaF being the best fantasy books ever. One huge advantage over GRRM is that Erikson finished his series (10 books).
It was very different to any fantasy books I've read and any worlds. There were lots of twists in the books. There was no cliffhangers at the end of each book, with exception of book 9, but only because 9 and 10 were supposed to be a single book but divided in two due to the size.
Main disadvantage to me is the fact that even after the end I still felt that there should be more, like not every question was answered. Saying that, he's now writing another series in the same world, though possibly a prequel to the story, while the co-writer of the world Cameron Esselmont is writing his series (which I haven't read).

I think I have the first one as a pdf download on my Nook. I just haven't read it yet.

It's great series, Cori. Although, you may find it a bit confusing at the beginning, with different nations, races and the way magic works, but once you're past that, you will enjoy it.

So what is the name of the first one? I hate to start a series in the middle - that's even more confusing than taking in a lot of details to set the stage for an unusual world.

Gardens of the Moon is the first book. He didn't write them in a chronological order, but you should read them in the order he wrote them nevertheless.

I'm reading the first one right now, actually, but it hasn't been able to grip me yet. Like you said it's somewhat confusing at first.. it makes me doubt I'm reading the first in the series, though I know it is.. I've read two-three other books in between as I keep getting distracted. I'll continue it eventually though.

Thanks, Pex. I'll check my Nook and get started if that's it.

I'll continue it eventually though. I totally understand what you're saying. He started the book as if all of us knew the rules in his universe. Which, in all honesty, is what most of the writers do anyway - but some other universes are not as complex. It probably takes a third of the book to get the basic idea, and that could be off-putting for some people. Another thing that I found is that there is no clear distinction between good guys and bad guys. But that's just good writing
